How did we image the Earth?

No, we do not have our own satellite. We use public domain (free) satellite
imagery acquired from the EROS Data Center and process it with our secret (shhhh) formula.
Because of the abstract nature of the raw satellite data,
computer processing is necessary to visually translate the imagery into
a form conducive to human consumption. In other words, we made it look real.
We modeled the coloring as if the entire atmosphere, clouds and all, were
removed to reveal the surface of the planet. This is the level of reality
that humans are most familiar with. One could liken the process to cleaning
a dirty window to see the interior as clearly as possible. The atmosphere
can then be reapplied for realistic views of Earth from outerspace. Also,
because of the ever-changing
nature of our planet (geomorphism),
any
still-image representation
is inherently
incomplete. We call our business The Living Earth®, Inc. because accurately
representing Earth demands a system of keeping up with its changes - a 'living'
representation of sorts.
